The Book

Revelatory Aesthetic Photography™ presents the theoretical and methodological foundations of a novel photographic approach amalgamating science, philosophy, and art. Bringing together the physics of light, the science of perception and cognition, the aesthetics, the semiotics and semantics, and the art of visual synthesis, the book develops an interdisciplinary framework for understanding how photography can recognize, articulate, and elevate the immanent beauty of its subject beyond the limits of ordinary appearance.

Here, aesthetic is understood not in the reductive sense of visual attractiveness or stylistic refinement, but in its deeper philosophical sense: As pertaining to the conditions under which phenomena become perceptually apprehensible, sensuously intelligible, and capable of giving rise to an experience of beauty. Beauty is therefore neither treated as a purely objective property residing in things nor as an arbitrary subjective judgment, but as an emergent relation between the latent structures of reality, the physical mediation of light, the perceptual and cognitive organization of the observer, and the compositional agency of the artist.

Revelatory, accordingly, does not imply the invention or arbitrary beautification of reality. It designates an act of disclosure: The photographic recognition and perceptual actualization of the latent aesthetic modes already immanent within the subject. Photography is thus elevated beyond its conventional function as a means of reproduction into a revelatory medium through which hidden aesthetic potentials can be selected, intensified, synthesized, and ultimately transfigured into a dignified, sculpturally articulated perceptual presence.
